Have you ever suffered any kind of discrimination?

What is discrimination?

Any attitude that inferiorizes, separates and also excludes a person or a group of people based on preconceived ideas, be it racial, gender, religion, purchasing power or nationality, is undoubtedly an act of discrimination.

What are the types of discrimination?

  • By race: Racism is practiced where there is the idea that one race is superior to another;
  • By gender: It's called sexism, which is a type of discrimination based on sex, where they believe that one sex is superior to the other;
  • By religion: These are attitudes that are offensive to religious beliefs and practices, which greatly harm the freedom of those who suffer this type of discrimination;
  • By culture: Called xenophobia, discrimination against those who are foreigners is evidenced, for example, by their ethnic characteristics and language.
  • Appearance discrimination: Discrimination based on a person's appearance and clothing;
  • By social class: This is related to a person's purchasing power, such as their income, level of education and standard of living.

But what needs to be done to end or reduce discrimination?

Basically, our good education is essential to combat this type of attitude that has been ingrained on our planet for millennia. When I talk about education, I emphasize the good education that every individual must receive from the beginning of their life and this education begins in the family. It is in education that we begin to form character and opinion and the family plays a fundamental role in this.Parents have a duty to educate their children based on ethical and moral principles and always talk to each other, addressing all issues so that their children can be better informed and always open to new information. School is also another very important factor in the education of every citizen, because it is at school that we learn about the world and its issues and when we find this positive and respectful reference at school, we become even more enlightened.

But in order for discrimination to no longer occur, we also need the support of society as a whole, such as the coming together of families, schools, public organizations and others to better discuss this issue and find a way to put an end to all discriminatory thinking, because we know that we are equal, we have come and will one day leave here in the same way. Power, money, appearance, in short  our characteristics and positions will not interfere in anything when we leave this world, so this type of attitude is outdated. It is through discriminatory thoughts and attitudes that a lot of violence happens, taking away the peace of our society.

If you haven't done anything to change yet, start now - it's always time to change. Your attitude will go a long way towards saving our planet from the disgrace that is discrimination.
