The night and the dark have always been part of our imagination involving dark fantasies and figures, always very present in films and series, with the intention of demonstrating the mystery and danger that are part of the plot. But Nictophobia is a fear of the dark where the person suffering from this phobia feels dread every time they are in the dark. It is an irrational fear of the dark that causes anguish and anxiety at the thought of being in the dark.
Are there any causes for fear of the dark?
Many people associate the fear of the dark with the fear of feeling alone and see in the night or in a dark place a bad and fearful feeling linked to the darkness that can lead to some unwanted symptoms such as:
-Nervousness
-Gasping for breath
-Nausea
-Fear of dark environments
-Excessive crying
-Don't go out at night
-Anxiety at the thought of being left in the dark
-Do not sleep with the light off
Is there treatment?
First of all, it's important to know the origin of the fear of the dark, as it may be related to previous events that were understood negatively, resulting in a trauma that greatly affects the person's quality of life;
With the fear of the dark, the person stops living their life, closes themselves off from going out with friends at night, also from working, if it's an activity that has to be done at night, in short, countless activities that fear prevents them from carrying out.It is very important to seek therapeutic help which will evaluate and help the person suffering from nicthophobia to review their concepts of fear, where they came from and why they cause so much dread, and thus work on the possibilities of overcoming it so that the person can live fully and no longer limit themselves because of fear, living their life intensely.
