The world's population is increasing every year and becoming more and more urban. Every day millions and millions of people move around the world from one point to another within the cities.
Transportation is diverse, such as: road, rail and also water. In our history, large cities emerged when our ancestors modified nature in order to create new possibilities for getting around, both for people and for the transportation that took people from one place to another, as well as the cargo transportation that supplied the entire city.
But as I said earlier, the world's population increased a lot and consequently new roads and railroads had to be created, profoundly changing the dynamics of cities all over the world. Large transportation companies were created so that citizens could move around more quickly and easily.
On the one hand, the creation and growth of transportation has been extremely important for the progress of cities, but on the other hand, it has become a major problem because it has had a negative impact on sustainability;
We can think of it this way: the greater the number of people traveling from one side of the city to the other, the more traffic there will be, resulting in congestion, air pollution, etc. We also have to consider that many cities were built when cars didn't even exist, very old cities that today suffer from various problems in their urban mobility.
How to implement sustainable urban mobility? Have you ever heard of carpooling or car-sharing apps? It's attitudes and services like these that help reduce the number of vehicles on urban roads and also have the benefit of reducing CO2 emissions, less stress and an increase in quality of life.
Cycle lanes have also been a great option for collaborating with sustainable urban mobility, because not only do they not cause congestion or pollution, but they also help users to get out of their sedentary lifestyles and enjoy the outdoors more. Sustainable urban mobility is already being applied in many cities. Many companies are developing and producing alternative vehicles that don't emit pollutants, so that our planet suffers less.
We envisioned a major step forward in terms of the quality of life and health of the population, but we have to do our part.
