A mania is something that is part of our lives. We all have a mania, which is natural, as long as it doesn't damage our routine or cause us suffering.

Cleaning mania is one of the most common, as the person believes that there is a need to clean the environment  to make it more pleasant and clean at all times.

But when can you tell if this mania has gone beyond normal? What are the signs that it needs to be treated?

  • Cleaning the house for several hours every day and not letting it get dirty again;
  • Excessive concern with germs, bacteria, dust mites and dirt, constantly disinfecting objects;
  • Do not allow social events at home because they will make the whole room dirty
  • Delays appointments or doesn't attend social events just to clean the house;
  • She doesn't like visitors very much because she believes they'll dirty everything she's spent hours cleaning;
  • You need to constantly check that everything is in place and clean;
  • Clean the same places and objects several times

When cleaning habits go beyond normal, they are no longer healthy and become a compulsion, such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), which dominates a person's life and needs to be treated by a medical professional such as a psychiatrist, psychotherapist or psychologist.

But what are the causes?

There is still no clear cause, but there are some factors that can result in this mania, such as

  • Family history
  • Anxiety disorder;
  • Depression.

How to treat it?

Treatment is carried out by psychotherapy professionals who can work through individual and support group care, cognitive-behavioral therapy and, if necessary, the use of medication.

It's important to make it clear that only a doctor can prescribe medication if they think it's necessary. Don't self-medicate, as this can cause a lot of damage to your health.
