How to format your computer

Formatting computers is often associated with something complex, but it's actually much simpler than you might think. For a long time, it's been thought of as a laborious task that requires a great deal of knowledge in the field of technology, but in reality you can do it yourself, obviously taking care to avoid losing important files.

First steps

First of all, if you want to save some files, it's important to make a backup, i.e. keep your files saved on some kind of machine that will store your files, such as a USB stick, OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc. Also, it's essential to have a copy of your own operating system in order to reinstall it on your device. So, check out the tutorial below:

How to format your Windows:

Windows 10:

  • Open the Windows "Start" menu and click on the gear icon to open your system's "Settings";
  • Select the "Update and Security" option;
  • From the options in the sidebar, choose the option labeled "Recovery";
  • In the "Restore PC" option, click on the "Start now" button and follow your system's instructions to complete the formatting process.

Windows 7:

The formatting process is usually very similar to that of Windows 10, but there are some differences which make it necessary to highlight them in a separate topic.

  • Open the Windows "Start" menu and click on the "Control Panel" option;
  • There will be a search bar there, so search for "Recovery" and click on the first option;
  • Now click on "Advanced recovery methods".
  • You should now choose the option that indicates the complete restoration of your Windows to its original state, i.e. formatting all its contents (programs, files, your data, etc.).
