Fundamentalism" is a current of thought or a movement that literally preaches strict obedience to fundamental principles. Fundamentalism is best known in religion, but it can also be present in education, economics and politics. Here we will talk about religious fundamentalism and its fundamental points, which are:
Biblical fundamentalism is characterized by a literal reading of the Bible, with a more rationalistic and moralistic reading. In biblical fundamentalism, texts are read and interpreted as they are written, usually without taking into account the period, the historical context and the literary genre.
Fundamentalists reject modernity because they believe it to be harmful to faith, making it impossible for them to be open to new thoughts and paradigms. Faith in fundamentalism is the main point of its adherents, because they believe in biblical scripture and follow it literally, not being open to new interpretations or thoughts, which can become a source of extremism.
Nowadays, the fundamentalist movement has been combining religion and politics in order to assert religious values based solely on its theological vision, causing many conflicts and even wars. Conflicts, tensions and wars have been occurring all over the world and are usually the result of fundamentalist groups and movements.
It is very worrying when fundamentalist ideology adopts a discourse of discrimination, prejudice and hatred, because it generates the imposition of values in the public, political and religious spheres. Fundamentalism reaches its extreme when its way of thinking and living its religiosity extends to others, as if everyone should adopt the same thinking and behavior, and when they don't, it generates discriminatory and violent attitudes.
We must understand that we all have the right to freedom of thought and choice; everything that is imposed causes pain and suffering.
