Are you a Hedonist?

The word hedonism comes from the Greek hedonikos, which means pleasurable. Hedonism is a philosophical and moral doctrine which believes that happiness is found in supreme pleasure and denies suffering and pain. This search for pleasure above all else brings the hedonist a feeling of high satisfaction. Hedonism can be ethical as well as psychological.

Ethical hedonism contemplates pleasure and material goods, giving them extreme importance. In today's world, consumerism has been growing a lot in our society and many times we may not realize that we are overstepping the mark. A good example of this is buying a product unnecessarily, just for the pleasure of having it or eating something without even being hungry, just for the pleasure of eating. But when I buy something unnecessarily just for the pleasure of having a certain product, does that make me a hedonist?

The answer is no, because there are other factors that can also cause this behavior, but it is important to observe your attitudes and if you notice that you seek pleasure above anything else, it is advisable to seek help from a professional in the area to evaluate you.In the contemporary era in which we live, we are increasingly surrounded by consumerism and individualism, which sometimes, if we don't pay attention, can cross the line and make us selfish beings. Many people confuse the hedonist with the consumerist, but there is a difference, because the hedonist seeks the greatest pleasure, above anything else.

Psychological hedonism is based on supreme pleasure and denies suffering. There is a deep connection between pleasure and happiness, where people incessantly seek pleasure as a means of giving meaning to their own lives.

One of the most worrying factors in today's world is the increase in drug use, where people initially use these substances for the sensation of pleasure and end up becoming chemically dependent and start using drugs to avoid their displeasure with life.

There are many studies that also open up a worldwide debate about immediate pleasure and the search for happiness at any cost. For the hedonist, pleasure is the only path to happiness. But does pleasure really have a connection with happiness?

These are questions in which we try to know and understand what really makes us happy. We know that it is impossible to achieve a level of pleasure in its entirety in all our time, because we experience happy moments and other moments with difficulties, with uncertainties and we also go through some sad moments, this is part of our life.

There has to be a balance, because when we look for short-lived addictive pleasure just to achieve ecstasy, we miss out on moments of construction and knowledge that make us evolve as people. Your pleasure today must not compromise your pleasure tomorrow.
