Popular culture has emerged as a people's identity, its popular manifestations among people from certain regions, with their arts, festivals, languages, beliefs, traditions, customs and behavior patterns. It is based on real stories and passed down from generation to generation of a people who express their difficulties and struggles for survival, manifesting the social events they have experienced.

Examples of popular culture

  • Carnival:  one of the most popular festivals in the Western world. Studies show that Carnival originated during the Middle Ages and is directly related to Christianity. Some elements of Carnival were inherited from the celebrations of the Greeks and Romans, where the festivities were based on drinking, dancing and the pleasures of the flesh. For the Mesopotamian peoples, Carnival had the character of subverting social roles, where men dressed up as women and other similar practices were associated with this festival. The Brazilian carnival is part of the construction of the memory of the Brazilian people. It gives a lot of importance to data lived and portrayed by its people and also tells data from Brazilian history and that of other ethnic groups.
  • Music: covers relevant social issues, which can raise awareness of various issues experienced in society. There are many popular artists around the world, who in their music portray themes such as racial diversity, environmentalism, gender equality, social inequality, in short, various issues that are portrayed in music. There are many other types of popular culture, such as cinema, which can portray the reality of a people, dance which also acts as an element of popular culture.

Popular culture acts as a mirror of society, because it reflects its changes, values, beliefs and customs. It is fundamental for there to be awareness and debate among all peoples for greater knowledge of their people and equality of values.
