How to deal with the noise?

We know that noise has a huge impact on our quality of life and can cause us some problems. Noises such as loud music, honking horns, partying until the wee hours are some examples of situations that wear us down emotionally. When we hear some kind of noise we can have emotional reactions such as anger, irritation, anxiety and we can also have physical reactions such as aggression and tachycardia.

Some Noise Situations

  • Noisy neighbors: Before taking any legal action, try to have a good dialogue with the person responsible for the noise, because those responsible may not even be aware of exactly how much they are disturbing the people around them. If you don't succeed in this dialogue, try to take the appropriate measures under the law, but never resort to violence.
  • Noisy company: Find out if the company that is making a lot of noise has a license to operate in that location and if it does, also find out about the hours it can operate, because there are certainly permitted hours. If the company breaks the law, try to contact the competent authorities to identify and remedy the problem.
  • Noisy traffic: We know that it's not pleasant to live with the noise of cars, trucks and motorcycles in traffic on a daily basis. The noise causes us irritation and discomfort.

We can't stop the noise, but we can reduce it by not honking unnecessarily and, if possible, opting for hitchhiking.

We are exposed to noisy situations all the time and we know that excessive noise can affect our health. There are several studies around the world that have shown the acceptable limit for our brain, between 51 and 65 decibels (dB), and that above this limit our ability to concentrate and intellectual production is reduced, affecting our health.

This is a vast subject and there will certainly be many studies to come and we will have to change our attitudes so that we can live well together and our health is not harmed.
