You've probably heard of maledicentia a few times, so here we'll go into a bit more detail about the meaning of this word. But what does the expression maledicentia mean? The origin of the word comes from Latin where it was pronounced maledicentia, where the meaning is "to offend, to speak ill of". So we already know the meaning of the word maledicentia, we know that it's a malicious act where the purpose is to speak ill of others.
There are some examples of malice such as gossip, slander, gossip. When we are malicious or know that someone is being malicious towards someone, we have to understand that we can negatively affect people, causing harm to them and to their family and friends.
Is slander a sin?
I don't intend to preach about religions, but I would like to highlight a passage in the Bible in James 3:8 "The tongue is an uncontained evil, full of deadly poison". Psalm 140:11 also talks about slander; it says that the slanderer shall not be established on earth. As I said, I'm not going to talk about religions here, the purpose is to understand a little about the meaning of slander. Communication between human beings is something fantastic and we must know how to use the word, both written and spoken, in a conscious way, so that we don't provoke any form of prejudice or defamation.
We know that it's difficult not to talk about someone, because we're always interacting with other people and it's very common to talk about others, but if we can not speak ill of them, that's a big step forward. When we use the instrument of communication to curse and gossip about other people's lives, we turn this powerful instrument into something very evil, which can negatively transform other people's lives as well as our own.
Why do people like to say bad things about others?
Certainly people who use their tongues to curse are unhappy with their own lives, because they use their precious time to look after the lives of others. Instead of talking badly about others, try to find out what's wrong in your life, what's going on that makes you unhappy and if you're going to talk about someone, use your time to talk about the good and not make destructive remarks.Understand that being malicious isn't just speaking badly or untruthfully about other people, being a listener to malicious people is also super-negative, because you give credit to rumors and gossip. Put yourself in the other person's shoes to understand how bad it is to be slandered, so try not to practice maliciousness and neither be a listener to malicious people, because if these people have no one to talk to they will certainly take more care of their lives.
The purpose of our communication is to interact with each other so that we can understand each other and exchange ideas, knowledge and be able to live in harmony so that our time here on Earth will be more dignified and with a high quality of life. Don't use your powerful time for evil, try to evaluate yourself in your daily life and review your behavior and if necessary, don't be afraid or ashamed to change.
